Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8/1/2026  ·  Effective: 8/1/2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information WannaBuddy collects, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights available to you. WannaBuddy operates in the United States only, so this policy is written around US federal and state privacy law. It works alongside our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.

1. Overview

WannaBuddy is a US-only platonic-connection platform organized around zip codes. This policy describes our privacy practices for anyone who creates an account or otherwise uses the Service.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you give us

  • Account details — name, email address, password, date of birth (to confirm you're 18+), and zip code.
  • Profile information — photo, bio, and the interests, activities, and places you select or add.
  • Content you create — messages you send to other members, reports you file, and communications with our support team.

2.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Device and log data — IP address, browser type, device identifiers, pages viewed, and timestamps.
  • Approximate location derived from your zip code.
  • Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 6).

3. How we use information

  • To operate the Service — creating your profile, surfacing relevant matches, and enabling messaging.
  • To keep the Service safe — reviewing reports, enforcing our Community Guidelines, and preventing fraud or abuse.
  • To communicate with you — service updates, security alerts, and support responses.
  • To improve WannaBuddy — understanding usage patterns and troubleshooting issues.
  • To comply with legal obligations, including responding to valid legal process.

4. How we share information

  • Other members — your profile (avatar, bio, interests/activities/places, and general area based on zip code) is visible to other members; messages are visible to the people you message.
  • Service providers — companies that host our infrastructure, send emails, or provide customer support on our behalf, under contracts limiting their use of your data to providing those services. [List actual categories/vendors — e.g. cloud hosting, email delivery, analytics.]
  • Legal & safety — when required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of WannaBuddy, our members, or the public — including reporting apparent child exploitation material to NCMEC, as required under US law.
  • Business transfers — if WannaBuddy is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Cookies & similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for essential site functionality (like keeping you logged in), and analytics and/or advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may affect how the Service works.

6. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

7. Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under state privacy laws — including California (CCPA/CPRA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Virginia (VCDPA), Utah (UCPA), and other states with comparable laws. [Confirm and list the specific states your user base is actually in, since obligations and thresholds vary by state.] These generally include the right to:

  • Know / access — what personal information we've collected about you.
  • Delete — request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions. Use the Profile menu selection to do this.
  • Correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out — of the sale or sharing of personal information, and of targeted advertising or certain profiling, where applicable.
  • Appeal — a denied privacy request.
  • Non-discrimination — we won't deny you service, charge different prices, or provide a different level of service for exercising these rights.

9. Children's privacy

WannaBuddy is not directed at children and our account minimum is 18, which exceeds the age threshold under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18; if we learn that we have, we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email at least 7 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after that date means you accept the updated policy.
