Community Guidelines

Last updated: 8/1/2026  ·  Effective: 8/1/2026

These guidelines explain what's allowed on WannaBuddy, how we handle reports, and the rights you have as a user. WannaBuddy operates in the United States only (accounts and matching are organized by US zip code), so these guidelines are written around US law. They work alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

1. Our commitment

WannaBuddy exists to help people find company for the interests, activities, and places they already care about — hiking partners, board game regulars, coffee-shop friends, dog park companions. It is built around platonic connection only. WannaBuddy is a US-only service, organized around zip codes, and these guidelines are written to reflect applicable US federal and state law.

In short Be respectful, be honest about who you are, keep things platonic, and keep each other safe. Everything below is the detail behind that.

2. Who can use WannaBuddy

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. WannaBuddy is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; accounts we believe belong to a minor are removed. (This age floor is set above the COPPA threshold of 13 — we simply require every member to be a legal adult.)
  • You may hold one account, under your real identity. Impersonation and fake profiles are not allowed (see Section 4.4).
  • You must be a legal resident of the United States with a valid US zip code, and able to enter into a binding agreement under US law.
  • You may not use WannaBuddy if you have been previously banned, unless we've explicitly reinstated you.

3. What WannaBuddy is — and isn't — for

WannaBuddy is a platonic-connection platform. Profiles, messaging, and matching are all built around shared interests, activities, and places — not romantic or sexual pursuit.

this is for

Finding people to hike, play, explore, or hang out with around something you already enjoy.

this is not for

Dating, romantic pursuit, sexual solicitation, or any use that treats another member as a prospect rather than a person to do something with.

4. Community standards

4.1 Zero-tolerance violations

Immediate, permanent ban — no warning
  • Any sexual content or solicitation involving, or appearing to involve, a minor. Content or accounts of this nature are reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant law enforcement, as required under US law (18 U.S.C. § 2258A).
  • Credible threats of violence, terrorism, or violent extremist content.
  • Human trafficking or the exploitation of another person.

4.2 Harassment, hate speech & bullying

  • No harassment, stalking, or targeted abuse of another member.
  • No hate speech or content that attacks people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or other protected characteristics.
  • No incitement to harm, degrading language, or coordinated pile-ons.

4.3 Romantic or sexual solicitation

  • No using WannaBuddy to pursue dates, romantic relationships, or sexual encounters.
  • No sexually explicit messages, images, or profile content.
  • Repeated romantic advances after being told "not interested" are treated as harassment.

4.4 Impersonation & fake profiles

  • No pretending to be another person, a public figure, or WannaBuddy staff.
  • No fake, stolen, or AI-generated photos presented as your own likeness.
  • No bot or automated accounts.

4.5 Spam, scams & commercial solicitation

  • No unsolicited advertising, MLM recruitment, or commercial promotion.
  • No financial scams, phishing links, or requests for money, gift cards, or crypto from other members.
  • No mass, repetitive, or automated messaging.

4.6 Illegal activity

  • No coordinating illegal activity, including drug sales, weapons sales, or other unlawful transactions.
  • No content that violates applicable US federal, state, or local law.

4.7 Privacy violations & doxxing

  • No posting another person's private information (home address, phone number, workplace, financial details) without their consent.
  • No screenshotting and sharing private WannaBuddy conversations outside the platform without the other person's consent.

4.8 Intellectual property

Don't post content you don't have the rights to use. We respond to valid infringement notices under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) — use the Report Post functionality to report potential infringment.

4.9 Self-harm & dangerous behavior

We don't allow content that promotes or provides instructions for self-harm, suicide, or dangerous activities. If you or someone you know is struggling, please call or text 988 (the US Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) any time, day or night.

5. Meeting up safely

Because WannaBuddy is built around real-world activities, most connections eventually lead to meeting in person. A few ground rules:

  • Meet for the first time in a public place, and consider bringing the activity into a group setting.
  • Tell a friend or family member where you're going and who you're meeting.
  • Trust your instincts — you can leave, block, and report at any point, no explanation required.
  • Arrange your own transportation to and from the meetup.
Please note WannaBuddy does not conduct criminal background checks on members and cannot guarantee the conduct of any user, on or off the platform. Use the same judgment you would meeting anyone new.

6. How we enforce these guidelines

6.1 Reporting

Every profile, message, and piece of content can be reported directly from within the app. Reports are reviewed by our Trust & Safety team.

6.2 Possible outcomes

Depending on severity and history, we may take any of the following actions:

  • A warning and content removal
  • Temporary restriction of specific features (e.g., messaging)
  • Temporary account suspension
  • Permanent account ban
  • Referral to law enforcement, where required or appropriate

6.3 Notice and appeals

Where we take action against your account or content, we will tell you what we removed or restricted and why. If you believe we got it wrong, you can appeal through the in-app support flow or by contacting trust-and-safety@wannabuddy.com. We aim to review appeals promptly and will let you know the outcome.

7. Your rights as a US user

  • Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (e.g., California's CCPA/CPRA and similar laws in other states) have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of certain data uses — see our Privacy Policy for the mechanism to exercise these.
  • WannaBuddy is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data, consistent with COPPA. Our 18+ account minimum exceeds this requirement.
  • We comply with valid legal process from US law enforcement and, where legally required, report apparent child sexual abuse material to NCMEC's CyberTipline.

8. Changes to these guidelines

We may update these guidelines as WannaBuddy grows or as laws change. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email at least 7 days before they take effect. Continued use of WannaBuddy after that date means you accept the updated guidelines.
