Oakland-born Stanley Kirk Burrell, who has danced and rapped his way around the world as MC Hammer for more than 30 years, first put his moves to the test in the parking lot of what’s now known as RingCentral Coliseum and Oakland Arena when he was just 9 years old. He earned his first job at age 11 after being noticed right there in that parking lot: a position as a bat boy and later clubhouse assistant for the Oakland Athletics. Although it’s uncertain what the bad guys in “The Mandalorian” want from Baby Yoda, it’s clear what the internet wants – GIFs. Since the titular Mandalorian has a religious aversion to taking off his helmet, “The Child,” aka Baby Yoda, has become the face of the Disney + series that recently shattered the record for TV streaming viewers. Naturally, the cutesy force sensitive 50-year-old toddler makes excellent fodder for animated GIFS, but for a moment the creature’s future as meme material seemed in jeopardy. (click for more)
